You can at any time, easily and quickly, create an HTML subscription form, so that you can collect contacts directly on your website.

In the menu to the left, at the very bottom of the page, you will find Forms. From here you can click on either View or Create form. If you click on Create form, you can, on the next page, choose the type of form that you want to create. This article is about regular subscription form – you can read about other forms here.

Create subscription form

1. Select Contact List(s) and Setup

First name your form. Give it a meaningful name, so that you are never in doubt what form is about. It can for example be “Subscription form for the website”. Next, you need to choose to which contact list a person will be subscribed to and which fields to fill in when subscribing.
To the right, you choose which type of form you create. Subscription form is chosen in advance.

If you scroll down the page, you should take a few decisions.

  • Contact fields: Select the order in which your fields should appear. Drag and move fields as you wish.
  • Subscription Form Properties: Design “send” button on your form. Choose size and colour.
  • Select Language: Choose which language your form should be in.
  • Properties: Out subscription form is always with double opt-in in order to ensure that only good contacts come in your list. Here you can also choose whether you form should only be used to update an already existing contact.
  • Communication: Select whether you want to send the contact our standard Thank you email after subscription and whether you will receive an email with the contact information when a new subscription comes in.
  • Design and Branding: Choose a design for your subscription form. You can also choose to style it when you insert the HTML on your website.

2. Build Forms og Preview

On the next page, you can customize the pages and emails that are part of the subscription process. After a contact has clicked on “Subscribe” on the form, they will come through this order of pages and emails:

  1. Confirm page: This is the page that you see after a contact has clicked on Subscribe. Here it is important to point out that the person has not completed subscription process until he/she has confirmed the subscription in the Confirmation email. You can style this email in our system or you can redirect the contact to your own website, for example, a hidden page with your own text.
  2. Confirm email: This email is sent immediately to the contact and it contains a confirmation link. Only after the contact has confirmed the subscription, the person is active on your contact list.
  3. Thank you page: Once a person has confirmed the subscription in the confirmation email, a Thank you page appears. You can style this in our system or you can redirect the contact to your own website.
  4. Thank you email (on/off): If you have ticked this on the previous page, an email with a Thank you text will se sent. You can set up your own welcome flow instead. Read more about setup of welcome flow here.

For all emails and pages you can change the text and the design yourself so that it matches your graphic expression. Save.

View forms and get HTML

After you have saved the form, you will be redirected to “View forms” where you have an overview of your forms. From here you can, at the far right, click on “get HTML” and then copy the HTML. Once inserted on your website, your subscriptions will automatically be registered on your contact list.

In order to be GDPR compliant, as an email marketer, you need to obtain consent from your contacts that they agree to receive your marketing content. The consent collected must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, so as to reflect an obvious explicit agreement to be contacted via email/sms.

For consent to be valid under GDPR, a customer must actively confirm their permission to receive your marketing content, either by ticking an unchecked opt-in box or by double opt-in.

One way to obtain consent from your contacts in MarketingPlatform, is via a Confirmation Form – a form containing a Confirmation Email and a Thank You Page. By using a Confirmation Form, you can rest assured that the consent obtained will be fully compliant with GDPR requirements.

When do we use a Confirmation Form? A Confirmation Form is mostly used in the following cases:

  • To obtain consent from external contacts – contacts that have subscribed to your content by any type of subscription, other than our system Subscription Forms. System Subscription Forms contain a built-in Confirmation Email sent by default as part of the subscription process, and you can style it when creating the form itself. In case your contacts are imported via API/Connector, creating a Confirmation Form is highly recommended, as API/Connector sources will need the Confirmation Form created in order to style the Confirm Page/Email to your preferences. Otherwise, any unconfirmed profiles entering your list will receive/see the default system Confirmation Page/Email.
  • Any scenario where you want to obtain consent from manually imported unconfirmed contacts – in this case you would import them as unconfirmed and send them a Confirmation Email. Only when they have confirmed, they will be given a confirmed status.

Create a Confirmation Form

To create a Confirmation Form, access the “Forms” dropdown menu on the left side of your screen. By clicking on “Create a Form”, you will be taken to the setup page, where you can build your form and apply other settings.

1. Select List(s) and Setup

First thing you will need to do is give the form a name. The name given should be clear and easily identifiable for you and others that may need to work from your account on the platform.

Select List(s)

Next, you select the list(s) which you want to assign the form to. Please note that only one Confirmation Form can be created per list.

Select Form Type

After selecting the list(s), you should select “Confirmation Form” from the list of available form types (see image below):

A screenshot from the interface of MarketingPlatform picturing the instructions for using a Confirmation Form.

If you scroll down the page, there are also other settings available such as:

  • Select Language: select the language in which your form should be.
  • Properties: our confirmation forms are always with double opt-in to ensure that only good contacts get on your list.
  • Communication: choose whether you want to send your contacts our standard Thank You Email once they have opted-in through the Confirmation Email (in case you want to create your own autoresponder email, you leave out this field). You can also choose to receive new profile details via email when someone has confirmed their subscription. You can read more about Sending a Confirmation Email with Autoresponders here.

2. Build Forms and Preview

By clicking on “Continue” you will be taken to the “Build Forms and Preview” panel. Here you can customize the pages and emails that are part of the confirmation process:

  • Thank You Page: the page that will appear once your contacts have confirmed their consent (you can also choose to add a link that will direct them to another website address once they have confirmed)
  • Thank You Email: if you have ticked this on the previous page, an email with a Thank You text will eventually be sent. You can advantageously set up your own welcome flow instead. Read more about Setting Up a Welcome Flow here.
  • Confirm Email: this email is sent immediately to the contact and contains a confirmation link. Only when the contact has confirmed their consent, will they be active on your contact list.
  • Recovery Email: the email that will be sent if a contact has tried to update their email address and contains a recovery link.
  • Recovery Page: the page that will appear when a contact has recovered their email address.
  • Error Page: the page that will appear in case an error occurs during the confirmation process or in case your contact is already confirmed.

The unsubscribe link is alpha and omega in an email campaign. In MarketingPlatform, there must be an unsubscribe link, in order for you to be able to save and send your campaign. It is your assurance that you only send to contacts who want to receive your material. By default, an unsubscribe link is always included, but if you make your own design, you must make sure to insert it yourself. Read more here about how to insert links in your email.

There are three options in relation to unsubscription:

  1. You can use our standard unsubscribe link – see here how.
  2. You can create your own unsubscribe link – see here how.
  3. You can create an unsubscribe form that you can, for example, have on your website.

We will go through the third option here: the unsubscribe form.

Create an unsubscribe form

In the menu to the left, at the very bottom of the page, you will find Form. From here you can click on either View or Create form. If you click on Create form, you can, on the next page, choose the type of form you want to create.

1. Select Contact List(s) and Setup

First name your form. Give it a meaningful name, so that you are never in doubt what form is about. It can for example be “Unsubscribe form for the website”. Then you need to choose to which contact list your contacts can unsubscribe from.

To the right, you choose which type of form you want to create. Here you choose “Unsubscribe form (website form)”.

When you scroll down the page, you should take a few decisions.

  • Subscription Form Properties: Design “send” button on your form. Choose size and colour.
  • Select Language: Choose which language your form should be in.
  • Properties: Here you can choose whether your contacts should double-opt-out. That is, whether they should confirm their unsubscription, or it is enough that they fill out the form.
  • Communication: Select whether you want to send the contact our standard Thank you email after unsubscription.
  • Design and Branding: Choose a design for your unsubscribe form. You can also choose to style it when you insert the HTML on your website.

2. Build Forms og Preview

On the next page, you can customize the pages and emails that are part of the unsubscribe process. After a contact has clicked on “Unsubscribe” on the form, they will come through this order of pages (and emails):

  1. Confirm page: This is the page that you see after a contact has clicked on Unsubscribe. Here it is important to pay attention if the person has chosen to use double opt-out.
  2. Confirm email (on/off): This email is sent immediately to the contact if the contact has chosen to use double opt-out. Otherwise, the email is not sent.
  3. Thank you page: If one has chosen to use single opt out on his form, this page is seen right after unsubscribing. If you use double opt out, this page will be seen after the confirmation of unsubscription.
  4. Thank you email (on/off): If you have ticked this off on the previous page, an email will be sent with a confirmation that you have been unsubscribed.

For all emails and pages you can change the text and the design yourself, so that it matches your graphic expression. Save.

View forms and get HTML

After you have saved the form, you will be redirected to “View forms” where you have an overview of your forms. From here you can, at the far right, click on “get HTML” and then copy the HTML. Once inserted on your website, your unsubscriptions will automatically be registered on your contact list.

The unsubscribe link is alpha and omega in an email campaign. In MarketingPlatform, there must be an unsubscribe link, in order for you to be able to save and send your campaign. 3. You can create an unsubscribe form that you can, for example, have on your website – see how here.

We will go through the second option here: the unsubscribe link.

  • Design and Branding: This is not relevant for this type of form.

2. Build Forms og Preview

On the next page, you can customize the pages and emails that are part of the unsubscribe process. After a contact has clicked on unsubscribe link in the campaign, they will come through this order of pages (and emails):

  1. Confirm page: This is the page that you see after a contact has clicked on Unsubscribe. Here it is important to pay attention if the person has chosen to use double opt-out.

  4. Thank you email (on/off): If you have ticked this off on the previous page, an email will be sent with a confirmation that you have been unsubscribed.

For all emails and pages you can change the text and the design yourself, so that it matches your graphic expression. Save.

View forms

After you have saved the form, you will be redirected to “View forms” where you have an overview of your forms. When you make sendings to the contact list you have created your unsubscribe link for the link you just created will be used. You do not need to change anything in your campaign, there just needs to be an unsubscribe link in the campaign and the system will automatically use your own unsubscribe link and flow when you send out.

In order to segment your contacts and therefore target your campaigns, you need to know something about your contacts. For this you can, for example, use a Modify details form. A Modify details form can also be called an “Update your profile” form, as it is most often what it is used for. You can link to your Modify details form in your campaign, either as an independent campaign in your welcome flow or as a fixed link in your footer. In this way, you give your contacts the opportunity to click on what they are interested in and what they want to read about.

Create a modify details form

In the menu to the left, at the very bottom, you will find Forms. From here you can click on either View or Create form. If you click on Create form, you can, on the next page, choose the type of form that you want to create.

1. Select Contact List(s) and Setup

First name your form. Give it a meaningful name, so that you are never in doubt what form is about. It can for example be “Update your profile” or “Customer interests”. Next, you need to choose to which list your contacts need to be updated on and which fields you would like them to fill in. For this, you must have beforehand created the contact fields that you would like the contacts to fill in. See here how to create contact fields.
To the right, you choose which type of form you create. Here you choose “Modify details”.

If you scroll down the page, you should take a few decisions.

  • Contact Fields: Select the order in which your fields should appear.
  • Subscription Form Properties: Design “send” button on your form. Choose size and colour.
  • Select Language: Choose which language your form should be in.
  • Properties: If you have a Confirmation form set up for the same contact list, you will be able to use the modify details form to update email addresses as well. Otherwise, this is not relevant for the setup of a modify details. Read more about Confirmation form here.
  • Communication: This is not relevant in this type of form.
  • Design and Branding: Choose a design for your form.

On the next page, you can customize the pages and emails that are part of the update process. After a contact has clicked on “Update” on the form, a Thank you page will appear. You can style this page in our system or you can redirect the contact to your own website. Click Save.

Insert the form into your campaign

In order to include a link to your Modify details form, you need to have a piece of text which will link to the form. Write for example “Update your profile” and attach the link from the gray toolbox. Instead of inserting a URL, you will, in the dropdown menu, find your “Modify details” form.
